The family that owns and operates this wheat farm on the Waterville Plateau is nice. Even toward me, a stranger navigating a gravel road off U.S. Route 2 to reach the property. I drove up and saw a man my age working on a combine. I asked if I could take photos on his property. He agreed. I met his dad who was in his 90s. His relatives came here from Europe in the late 1800s. He said the original wells were dug by hand. We talked for about an hour. The red barn belongs to another land owner several miles west of here off U.S. 2.
