Maybe my day on the Waterville Plateau wasn't perfect. But it was close. Yes, my Honda CR-V was a dirt magnet navigating backroads in north-central Washington. And the wind did kick up once. But the prairie was a masterpiece: blue skies with cotton-candy clouds. The stillness was interrupted by songbirds. I set up my camera and tripod on the shoulder of a primitive road to capture the pioneer shack above. The farm below is located just off U.S. Route 2.
