The neon glow of the Bruce and Empire hotels in Wenatchee, Wash., burned out long ago. The signs are relics. But that's the beauty of them. They are abstract art, especially the letter fonts at the Bruce Hotel, a run down, low-income housing facility. The Empire Hotel has rooms on the second floor of a crusty brick building above Wally's House of Booze, a popular pub on Wenatchee Ave. At night patrons stand outside on the sidewalk puffing on cigarettes. A relative claims he saw Steve Miller, a guitarist and recording artist, play inside. I can't confirm it. If Miller was there he is braver than me.
