In 2015 I purchased a photo guide map of the Palouse wheatlands with 150 prime locations. But I never used it. As I was planning a photo trip to the region I ask Jesus to be my tour guide. He created everything so why not follow His lead? I turn off State Route 26 near Washtucna, Wash., and follow a gravel road for a mile. I turn right at a four-way junction and climb a hill flanked by wheat fields. I have no idea where I'm going. Then I spot a cluster of farm buildings ahead on the right. I park and walk on to the property, where I flush a large barn owl from a tree. The main attraction is the old barn, which is surrounded by collapsed farm buildings. The view from here is stunning. Wheat fields stretch for miles in every direction. This retired gas pump is in the town of Hay a few miles away.
