Sometimes a good photography location can be found without any advance work. You just get in the car and go. Maybe you a turn down a road or street you've never been on before. That's how I found these locations. The vacant farmhouse in eastern Washington is surrounded by scraggly trees and a cool windmill. I found the boxcar in a Pendleton, Oregon, rail yard on a return trip from Yellowstone National Park. (I live near Seattle). A security guard approached and asked what I was doing. Taking pictures, sir. He said I'd better be moving along. So much for country hospitality. Because this is a cowboy town I decided it was time to get out of Dodge.
