Cle Elum WA, Cle Elum Wash., farm windmill, rust, Peoh Point, Peoh Point School, Nikon F5, Kodak Portra 400, Jeff King Photography

When I picked up my 36-exposure film roll from the processing lab I was surprised my two best shots featured circles – a farm windmill and sunflower disk. I shot them in Cle Elum, Wash., where my daughter was getting married. During a break from wedding preparation I jumped in the SUV with my 35mm film gear to explore the countryside. I had to be quick because I was expected back in a half hour. The rusty windmill, which someone had made in to a sculpture, shares an open field with old farm vehicles and equipment. I found the sunflower on property that includes a vintage GMC truck and neon sign. I also stopped for an abandoned fuel tanker truck off Interstate 90.
