I've seen stop signs at railroad crossings. But never on railroad tracks. Until now. The signs above in Stanwood, Wash., warn of damaged tracks. The rail line continues past the big thorn bush, crosses a narrow road and disappears into tall grass next to a farmhouse and barn. The rail line once was used to move lumber from a nearby mill, which has closed. In the opposite direction it links to a busy main line. The only traffic this side track gets are beat-up, abadnoned railcars that have nowhere else to go.
