Small towns have a different vibe than the city. Tooling around Arlington, Wash., a farming and timber community north of Seattle, I come across: A pet prairie dog inside an auto repair shop . . . vinyl records at a thrift store. Manager tells me LPs are making a comeback . . . Fresbee-sized pancakes at the Blue Bird Cafe . . . the landmark Olympic Theatre, which closed in 2014 afer a 75-year run . . .  a note taped to the window of a pickup truck discouraging would-be gasoline thieves.
