Small towns have a different vibe than the city. Tooling around Arlington, Wash., a farming and timber community north of Seattle, I come across a pet prairie dog inside an auto repair shop . . . vinyl records at a thrift store. Manager tells me LPs are making a comeback . . . Frisbee-sized pancakes at the Blue Bird Cafe . . . the Olympic Theatre, which closed in 2014 after a 75 year run . . . a note taped to the window of a pickup truck warning gas thieves.
