Palouse wheat country in eastern Washington is linked by a network of dirt, gravel and paved roads. You could spend weeks or months traveling the backroads and not see everything. I spent three days exploring some of these roads and found a few gems, including the barn above near Tekoa. The picket-fence flag is nailed to a storage shed in Benge. To get here from Seattle I traveled several hours east on Interstate 90, which is where I found the old truck-stop sign.
