Ramona Falls spills over a stair-stepped wall of columnar basalt in Oregon's Mount Hood Wilderness. It is breathtaking. So is the 3.5-mile hike to the falls. You pass under a canopy of Douglas Fir, surrounded by ferns and rhododendrons. Moss carpets the forest floor. You are serenaded by songbirds and the soft babbling of Ramona Creek. A mile from the falls you pass a rock wall with orange streaks. I made this trip in 2009 with a 10-megapixel DSLR. The shot above was the Week 8 winner in The Weather Channel's From The Edge With Peter Lik Photo Contest in 2011.
